How do you make wise selections of fleece, fiber, preparations, and tools when you have not been introduced to them? How can you fully enjoy being a part of the larger fiber and spinning communities when you don’t understand the vocabulary, speak “spinning”, or have any hands-on experience?

  • Examine commercial and hand prepared fibers (primarily wool) and what kind of yarn they will yield
  • Fiber tools: combs, cards, flickers, dizes, wpi and tpi tools, picker and drum carder
  • A tip to determine correct twist for plying (The most valuable thing I ever learned! and “Worth the price of the whole class!” - Sabette) and evaluating finished skeins for correct twist
Experience Level: all levels—non spinners welcome
